WINERY
BACKGROUND The
winery behind Cristalino, Jaume Serra, was founded in 1943
by distinguished enologist Jaume Serra Guell. It is located
in the Garraf subdivision of the Denominacion de Origen Penedés,
the largest wine growing area in Catalonia. Jaume Serra lies
within the “El Padruel” estate in the Mediterranean
Coastal town of Vilanova y la Geltru, some 50 kilometers south
of Barcelona,. Wine making began on this property in 1947.
The winery underwent renovations in 1984 and then again in
1997, after the J. García Carrión family purchased
the property.

THE VINEYARDS
Grapes for the Antano Tinto
are sourced from two subdivisions: Rioja Alavesa and the
Rioja Baja for the color and acidity imparted to the grapes
from these two areas. Grapes for both the Crianzas and the
Reservas are soley from the Rioja Alta and consist of Tempranillo,
Mazuelo, Granacha, and Graciano. Traditionally, vineyards
in the Rioja Alta are planted predominately with Tempranillo,
a noble grape which the Spanish regard as their best red
varietal. This native grape is extremely well-suited to
the region;s subclimate, which is influenced by both the
Atlantic and Mediterranean Oceans. The Soil throughour the
Rioja is Calcareous. Vines are naturally stressed in theis
tipe of soil, developing extensive root systems. It is not
uncommon to find rootscocks ranging from 10 to 20 years
old.
The winemaker of Bodegas Antano
honors tradition while using modem eonological innovations
to produce some of the Rioja’s finest wines today.
VINIFICATION
Tinto:
90% Tempranillo, 5% Garnacha, 5% Mazuelo. Aged in American
oak for 8 months and one year in bottle prior to release.
Crianza:
75% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha, 7% Mazueol, 3% Graciano.
Aged in American Oak for 14 months and 18 months prior to
release.
Reserva:
80% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha, 5% Mazuelo, 5% Graciano.
Aged in American Oak for 24 months and 24 months prior to
release.
Gran Reserva:
80% Tempranillo, 12% Mazuelo, 8% Garnacha. Aged in American
Oak for 30 months and 36 months in bottle prior to realease.
